Abstract:
City limits (corporate) boundary lines for municipalities within Wyandotte County, Kansas, including cities of Kansas City, KS, Bonner Springs, Ks, Edwardsville, KS, that portion of City of Lake Quivira within Wyandotte County, and unincorporated remnant of Delaware Township.
This dataset also contains city boundaries for Bonner Springs, KS and Lake Quivira, KS, that continue across Wyandotte Co. corporate boundary and into neighboring Johnson and Leavenworth Counties.
GIS polygon feature layer dataset derived from source document legal boundary and annexation documents using reference map information at 1:1200 scale. Represents present-day boundaries. |
Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.

Supports the Unified Government's Enterprise GIS (E-GIS) system as a political jurisdiction layer. E-GIS users and applications rely on this spatial layer for cartographic representation of city boundaries and determination of location of property and assets with respect to municipal jurisdiction. This dataset does not meet land survey accuracy standards.
Unified Government's GeoSpatial Services (GSS) is also custodian/distributor of many other digital spatial reference layer datasets covering Wyandotte County, Kansas. For more information on publicly available datasets contact GSS using Distributor contact info in this metadata.

Municipal entity names are verified as correctly named, spelled, and assigned
Dataset has topologically correct polygons with no line segment dangles or duplication. There is a one-to-one match of polygon/discrete municipal entity. Depiction of city limits in county is seamless. Portions of Bonner Springs and City of Lake Quivira city limits that extend into neighboring counties are included. These outside-Wyandotte Co. jurisdictional boundaries can be selected out for custom mapping purposes.
Complete
Boundary lines are compared against 1:1200 source material for comparison with reference features such as property ownership and roads. Boundaries were laid out according to legal description (usually metes & bounds) as best obtained by heads-up digitizing using reference layers for vector digitization. These boundary lines are not survey accurate but are positionally good enough for government administration requirements.
N/A
Base tax parcel maps were used to help plot boundaries.
Aerial orthophotography furnished spatial reference features to assist in plotting boundaries
Annexation records and corporate boundary legal descriptions furnish official boundary determinations
Tax parcels provide property ownership lines to help determine boundaries and their proper alignment
Existing city limits dataset is compared against official municipal corporate limits legal description. This involves interpreting legal description language (usually metes & bounds), plotting boundary course corrections/alterations, and updating dataset vector boundary lines through heads-up digitization. Aerial orthos, tax parcels, other political jurisdictional boundaries, and other GIS datasets are used for reference throughout.
Boundary lines were corrected/adjusted based on recent corrective revisions to sections and quarter-sections GIS datasets that were themselves revised to better reflect land ownership boundaries on tax parcel dataset. City limits boundaries between Bonner Springs and Kansas City KS were adjusted to follow south ROW line of State Ave, per corporate boundary legal description.
