Abstract:
GIS Layer depicts historic districts in Kansas City, KS, as officially recognized by KCK Landmarks Commission. Some districts may also have State and National historic registration status.
Historic district boundaries are defined in document "Historic Districts" cited in Lineage section of this metadata.
Historic district means "a geographically definable area possessing a substantial concentration, linkage or continuity of sites, buildings, structures or objects united associationally by historic events or physically by historic plan, historic design or
historic development within a contiguous configuration of land, designated by the governing body as having particular historic, cultural or architectural significance, and limited in size to that reasonable area needed to sustain the integrity and to maintain the proper identification of the district." (KCK Landmarks Ordinance, Sec. 27-76)
There is a companion dataset named historic_dist_env_py, a GIS layer of 500 foot environs zone (buffer zone) around State-approved historic districts that establishes preservation-related control by State statute over properties within or touched by the 500 foot buffers.
Furnished in ESRI shapefile format in Kansas North State Plane coordinates, NAD83, units US feet. |
Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.
