Abstract:
GIS polygon feature layer depicts 500 foot environs zone (buffer zone) around State-approved Wyandotte County, KS historic Landmarks that establishes preservation-related control by State statute over properties within or touched by the 500 foot buffers. Landmarks are officially designated at the city, state, and/or national level. A Landmark is a building, site, structure, or object that has this historic recognition status. This environs layer is buffered from overall Landmark site grounds or property boundary, but not structure outlines if it is a building.
Companion GIS dataset of Historic Landmarks is named historic_landmrk_py.shp. See its metadata for information about Landmark feature overlaps, omissions, and discrepancies.

Each environs buffer poly uses its corrresponding feature in historic_landmrks_py as in_feature, and uses buffer linetype of round, to produce half circles at polygon corners
All known historic landmarks in Wyandotte County, KS which have city, state, and/or national designation should be included in this dataset. But there are some discrepancies noted in a GSS review of this dataset, namely several missing landmarks and some demolished landmarks appear in this dataset.
Feature basis for buffering is companion dataset historic_landmrk_py, believed to be an accurate translation of historic landmark boundaries documents (see Source Information). Where tax parcels GIS layer was source of historic landmark boundary(s), locational accuracy of grounds polygon is same as tax parcels layer. Buffering was done in the software program.
